Jaya inaugurates Mettur dam tower

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today inaugurated a tower at Mettur built to commemorate the completion of 75 years of the Mettur Dam, which caters to the water needs of 11 districts of the state. Built at a cost of Rs one crore, the 75 ft tall structure will house a museum, pictures and books depicting the dam''s early history, among others, a government release here said. Visitors can enjoy the sight of the Mettur dam from the sixth floor of the tower which is equipped with lift, it added. Jayalalithaa inaugurated the tower via video conferencing.

 Manoharan first visually-challenged HM in TN
    
       N. Manoharan, 54, has become the first visually-challenged principal of a 'normal' government school in Tamil Nadu.
Manoharan, who has been teaching English in Mettur, he was appointed as PG assistant in English at the government school in Mettur in 1984 and then in Tiruvannamalai and Kancheepuram for the past 26 years, Now Manoharan was promoted recently as the headmaster of the government higher secondary school at Melapulam near Arakonam, which was also upgraded this year from a high school
